Vintage Tuareg Mat Collections

 Tuareg Mats

Tuareg mats, often known as "azar," are traditional woven items made by the Tuareg people, a nomadic group in the Saharan region. These mats are typically made from natural materials like palm fronds and are known for their durability and intricate designs.  The leather designs are made using camel or goat leather.  These nomadic tribes use the mats in their camel hair tents.  The mats are easy to roll up and carry on the caravans across the Sahara and are also very durable in the hot, dry, hostile conditions.

We source our Tuareg Mats from Niger and Mauritania.  The vintage pieces are becoming increasingly rare due to demand and private collectors.

Please get in touch with us or have a look at our interiors site at MBC

We had the pleasure of helping Timothy Oulton who visited us in Marrakech choose 40 of our Tuareg Mats in his 'Noble Souls Collection' which can be seen around the world.

We currently have 2 currated catalogues, the Ancestors and The Tribe.  Please contact us if you would like to receive them.  Maybe you would like us to make you a Bedouin tent to house them in?
